Renaming/removal of the following lines previously used by the HIRE act: 6a, 6b, 6c, 7a, 7b, 7c, 8, 10, 12c, 12d, 13

2011 U.S. Payroll Tax Update for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0

The March 2011 Round 4 U.S. Payroll Tax Update has released.

**Important**
-When you create your Electronic W2 filing and you have a combination of Hire Act employees and multiple companies you will need to create the Electronic W2 File separately for each company. If you create one file including all companies the Hire Act employees will not include the RO record indicating that they are a Hire Act Employee for subsequent companies. Resolved in Round 4 code Tax Update.

– The FICA/Social Security withholding changed for employees from 6.2% to 4.2% in 2011. Round 1 included the change to both the Employee and Employer portion due to Microsoft Dynamics GP calculation being based from one amount. Due to this, General Ledger posting, inquiries and reports that show FICA amounts for employers will be calculated using 4.2% for payruns that are processed with Round 1. Round 2 Tax Update includes changes to the employer portion to bring back to 6.2%. We understand the challenges you face with this: however, it was important to release with accurate employee paychecks starting January 1, 2011.

– Check Register Report – If you are finding that your Employer FICA Owed and Total Tax Liability are not correct on your Check Register reports verify that you are on Microsoft Dynamics GP Version 10.00.1701. If you are running on this version next step is to verify if you have modified the Check Register Report. If you are printing a modified Check Register you will need to either print the original canned report or delete the Modified Check Register and make your changes again.

Microsoft Dynamics GP Combined with Microsoft Office and SharePoint: A New Way to Do Business

Errol Schoenfish

We have a huge base of Microsoft Dynamics GP customers already taking advantage of the power of Dynamics GP combined with Microsoft Office and SharePoint. With the announcement that Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 are now available to business customers, it’s a great time to talk about the potential of leveraging these new releases.

People: Microsoft Excel 2010 has a number of new features that make information more visual, helping to interpret data easier to avoid overload. When connected to Dynamics GP, Excel empowers people by delivering new insight into business information making it easier to share and act.

New Excel 2010 features such as Slicers and Sparklines bring numbers to life
PowerPivot for Excel 2010 is super cool and has a huge value to Dynamics GP customers. Mash data together from Dynamics GP, Dynamics CRM, and other data sources and create graphs and charts against your key business metrics in one place. This is a must do. Check it out.

Processes: Businesses are complex and so the processes a business has are equally complex. Exceptions, missing information, multiple teams and locations make it difficult to have a repeatable process that’s followed. New Workflows with Dynamics GP that leverage SharePoint help define your processes for more than just approvals, but steps in your specific business before approval is needed.

Being able to view information outside of Dynamics GP gives people a huge benefit, but being able to write data back to Dynamics GP without a full user is awesome. Using SharePoint 2010 External Lists, Dynamics GP customers can now view information, update it and have it update Dynamics GP. No development needed. No customizations. Right out of the box, built into our portal.
Ecosystem: Connections. Connections are vital and using technology to make it easier to connect and collaborate gives a business leverage, leverage to grow and compete.

In Dynamics GP 2010 you can now email professional looking Word forms to suppliers and customers, making it easier to communicate. Being able to email groups of documents from a batch or a filtered list not only helps people to connect, it helps them communicate steps in a business process. For example, you can email all orders that were shipped to customers, so they have an advanced ship notice.

These are just a few of the things you can take advantage of with Dynamics GP, Office, and SharePoint. Feel free to share your favorite features of the new release.

2011 U.S. Payroll Tax Update for Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0

**Important** When you create your Electronic W2 filing and you have a combination of Hire Act employees and multiple companies you will need to create the Electronic W2 File separately for each company. If you create one file including all companies the Hire Act employees will not include the RO record indicating that they are a Hire Act Employee for subsequent companies.

Round 3 Tax Update has released (data change)

Round 2 Tax Update for 2011 has been re-released (code change – Dynamics Version 10.00.1701). This download (MicrosoftDynamicsGP-KB2492915-V10-ENU.exe) fixes the issues below.
Check Register – When you have Direct Deposit employees the Direct Deposit Check Register will still show the incorrect amount for Employer FICA Owed. You will need to print the Reprint Check Register (Reports | Payroll | Reprint Journals) in order to show the correct Employer FICA Owed amount.
941 changes
– 941 Preparation Report will be correct through 6e. The rest will be understated.
– 941 Schedule B Preparation Report will be understated. Report is taking Employee total times 2 instead of taking Employer amount.
– Form 941 Schedule B will be understated. Report is taking Employee total times 2 instead of taking Employer amount.

Round 4 – scheduled to be released mid-March (code change)
– Oregon
– 941 changes
– Federal Tax Liabilities List 941 amount will be understated.

Important Note: The FICA/Social Security withholding changed for employees from 6.2% to 4.2% in 2011.

New Microsoft Dynamics ERP Resources Save Customers Time and Money

REDMOND, Wash. — Feb. 23, 2011 — Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq “MSFT”) today announced new resources to help improve productivity and save Microsoft Dynamics enterprise resource planning (ERP) customers time and money through new interoperable Microsoft technologies. The new resources include an out-of-the-box connector between Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft Dynamics AX and a Data Migration Assistant for Microsoft Dynamics AX customers moving from an Oracle database to Microsoft SQL Server.

“These offerings help enable Microsoft Dynamics ERP customers to take full advantage of the benefits of Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft SQL Server in an easy and cost- effective way,” said Guy Weismantel, director, Microsoft Dynamics ERP Product Marketing. “By offering out-of-the-box interoperability with these Microsoft technologies, as well as Microsoft Office 2010, Microsoft SharePoint 2010 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, we’re further supporting our customers’ path to becoming dynamic businesses.”

Following the recent global launch of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, the new connector release facilitates out-of-the-box interoperability between either version of Microsoft Dynamics CRM — online or on-premises — and Microsoft Dynamics AX. This connection helps improve productivity by eliminating redundant data entry and provides organizationwide insight across the applications through an easy-to-use and familiar Microsoft interface. Customers can focus their efforts on the work that furthers their business objectives.

“The availability of a connector between the Microsoft Dynamics ERP and Microsoft Dynamics CRM applications allows us to focus on our key areas of expertise,” said Russell Smith, senior vice president, Edgewater Fullscope, a Microsoft Dynamics partner. “Being able to easily and affordably implement Microsoft Dynamics CRM along with or into an existing ERP implementation provides new opportunities for us to grow our business.”

Connectors between Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft Dynamics GP, as well as Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft Dynamics NAV, are also available. A connector for Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft Dynamics SL is planned for the second half of 2011. Working with their partners, customers can receive the connector software as a benefit of their enhancement plan.

Future versions of Microsoft Dynamics AX, including the upcoming Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 release, will exclusively use Microsoft SQL Server, allowing customers to take advantage of enhanced business intelligence (BI), security, reporting and analysis capabilities, as well as interoperability with Microsoft Office and Microsoft SharePoint, all at a low total cost of ownership. To help customers make the transition and take advantage of the benefits of Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft is offering a new Oracle to Microsoft SQL Server Data Migration Assistant for Microsoft Dynamics AX. The Data Migration Assistant uses an interactive wizard for each step of the process, making it quick, easy and cost-effective to use.

“The Data Migration Assistant made the process of moving our database simple and efficient,” said Franz Coester, chief information officer, Bächli Bergsport AG, the leading mountain sports retailer in Switzerland. “With Microsoft SQL Server, we have been able to accomplish our objective of a unified database environment, both for our ERP solution and for our BI solution. This will make our life much easier in the future.”

More information about the benefits of switching from an Oracle database to Microsoft SQL Server is available at http://www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2008/en/us/compare-oracle-calc.aspx.
