Now Available Round 2 U.S. Payroll Tax Update for Microsoft Dynamics GP

Round 2 Tax Update for 2011 has been released. Round 2 update includes a data and code change. This update requires that the Automatic Update be processed along with installing the msp file on all workstations.

Important Note: The FICA/Social Security withholding changed for employees from 6.2% to 4.2% in 2011. Round 1 included the change to both the Employee and Employer portion due to Microsoft Dynamics GP calculation being based from one amount. Due to this, General Ledger posting, inquiries and reports that show FICA amounts for employers will be calculated using 4.2% for payruns that are processed with Round 1. Round 2 Tax Update includes changes to the employer portion to bring back to 6.2%. We understand the challenges you face with this: however, it was important to release with accurate employee paychecks starting January 1, 2011.

Service Pack Now Available for Advanced Allocations


We are happy to announce our latest release of Advanced Allocations for Dynamics GP. 

New features and functionality include:

  •  Transaction Allocations.  You can now allocate individual transactions, not just account balances.  When a recipient account receives an allocation, the allocation will be complete with source transaction information such as: Vendor, document number, date, and transaction description. 
  • Post Allocation Transactions to Your Choice of Ledgers.  If you are using GP2010, you can post allocation entries to one of three difference ledgers.   This allows you to produce financials and other reports with or without the effect of allocation entries.  This feature also lets you segregate allocated amounts by column on your FRx reports.
  • Target Account Masking.  If you allocate from accounts to the same accounts just in a different cost center or department, this feature is a real time saver and will greatly reduce the number of allocations that need to be set up.  See our latest online demo for details.
  • Edit List Process.  If you attempt to post to the GL allocations that have invalid accounts, you will be presented with a list of the invalid accounts, and you will not be able to complete the post.  Further, you will be warned via a report (in addition to the current warning you receive on the setup form) if there are allocations where the target account percentages to not equal 100%. 
  • Cleaner Reports.  All reports have been revised so they are easier to read.
  • Revised Online Help.

Important Information Regarding Management Reporter and Microsoft FRx

Management Reporter Feature Pack 2, released in December, contains key features that FRx customers have been waiting for, including currency translation support for Microsoft Dynamics GP and integration with Microsoft Forecaster. The integration to Forecaster will allow Management Reporter customers to include budget data from Forecaster on their financial statements.

Since the release of Management Reporter, Microsoft Dynamics GP partners have had options to occasionally sell Microsoft FRx on an exception basis to customers that required one of these features. Effective March 1, 2011, Microsoft FRx exception sales will no longer be available. Management Reporter will be the only option for Microsoft Dynamics GP customer’s financial reporting needs. Customers registered for Microsoft FRx prior to March 1, 2011 may continue to use Microsoft FRx, but will no longer be able to purchase additional users.

Microsoft FRx will continue to be supported through the Microsoft Dynamics GP 10.0 product lifecycle, mainstream support ending 10/9/2012 and extended support ending 10/10/2017.

Bonus Depreciation Provision for Businesses

President Obama signed House Bill H.R. 4853 (Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization, and Job Creation Act of 2010) into law on December 17, 2010. H.R. 4853 includes a two-part extension of the bonus depreciation provision for all businesses, regardless of size. The potential tax benefits may be useful to your organization.

On December 17, 2010, President Obama signed into law House Bill H.R. 4853. This new law could allow businesses to write off an additional 100% of the cost of qualifying assets (including software) acquired and placed into service after September 8, 2010 through December 31, 2011. This law could also allow businesses to write off an additional 50% of the cost of qualifying assets placed into service after December 31, 2011 through December 31, 2012. This bill was signed in an attempt to encourage capital investment through 2012.

We want to let you know about this bill now because some of its provisions will only apply to qualifying assets put into service in 2010 and 2011. Further, there is no guarantee that a similar bill will be signed into law in 2013. As such, it is possible that certain tax benefits offered by this bill will only be applicable to qualifying asset purchases that occur over the next two years.
